I was at West Runton beach at 8:15 for my walk this morning before the tide got too high. I spotted this surfer having what I suspect was their first lesson......I couldn't resist taking the photo. Some fishermen were out in their boat and then returned to the shore as in my postcard in Extras. Quite a few more on the beach as would be expected with tourists returning, but still manageable at that time. Then home and got the washing done and dried, more gardening done and read the paper in the sun.
Day 119 / Full Day 111 of Lockdown / Day 9 of Step 3 (for my record only)
UK deaths up 21 to 44,819 (low no's Sun & Mon) with new daily cases up by 650. The total new cases reported for the US yesterday was 61,719 a new record. The US State of Florida reported 15,300 new cases today, just one day after Walt Disney World reopened there! 220 pickers and packers at a vegetable farm near Malvern have been tested for Covid-19 following an outbreak and 72 were positive. Workers are isolating on the farm. The Professor leading the team at Imperial College developing a vaccine says that it could be rolled out in the first half of next year if trials are successful. Gove says people should wear face masks in shops, but doesn't think they should be mandatory (obviously I disagree!). The BMA reports that a million planned operations and treatments, plus 20,000 cancer treatments have been cancelled or delayed Apr & June. How good to see Primark has bought back all 30,000 staff furloughed and is not going to claim the £30m Job Retention Bonus it could from the Govt for doing so - let's hope other big companies that can afford to do so follow their lead.
