I walked past this building every working day for three years and was always interested in its history. It was, between 1887-1912 the Falmouth Magnetic Observatory.
There had been a meteorological observatory in Falmouth since 1867 but it was not until 1886 that self-recording magetographs were installed there. Initially set up by the Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society it relied on grants from the Royal Society in order to function.
In 1912 magnetic observations ceased to be made at the site when the Kew pattern magnetographs were moved to a new observatory.
It is now a quite expensive Airbnb famed for its views out across Falmouth.
A quiet day off, some work at our friends and some quiet time with Clare and Samantha.
