Dun Ghallain

The murk and gloom of the past 48hours lifted from the island around 11 and revealed the wonders of Colonsay. A long walk in the south-west of the island across the machair to this iron age fort and then onward across deserted white beaches to the lonely farmstead at Ardskenish. Returning across dunes, we were frequently delayed by butterflies teasing us. Back at the car, I satisfied the urge to tackle the direct route up my first Macphie - Beinn nan Caorach via a lovely scramble. The summit was scattered with bone fragments from the local eagles using it as a dinner plate.
