Christmas in July
Someone from the church community stopped by with a rather heavy Christmas paper wrapped gift. He said it was Christmas in July. Indeed it was.
He had bought me (pastor nerd alert) the newly completed translation of the Hebrew Bible done by Robert Alter. He started the work in the mid 1990s so it’s kind of a life’s work.
It’s quite a gift and I’m already enjoying it.
I realized after I took the photo that these are the tools of my trade these days. Bible commentaries, a microphone for recording, and a collection of masks for when I go out.
I have to admit, I never saw this twist in the work coming. Perhaps it’s just a good reminder that things can change pretty quickly, “overnight.”
Still, a pretty cool gift. :)
