Blooming lovely ...
day out!
We booked a timed entrance slot at Brodsworth Hall (English Heritage), South Yorkshire for 11.00 am. Just a few minutes late we were being told about the social distancing one way route around the garden but also that we could take a short cut to the coffee van first if we wanted, of course we did.
A bit cloudy at times but warm and fine for sitting outside and wandering around. The house isn’t open yet but we have been inside before and the croquet lawn wasn’t in use as it was on our last visit but I enjoyed seeing the volunteers all working busily on the formal gardens. I particularly like the man shaping the hedges, top left.
Round the corner, when leaving the fern pit, the biggest collection of ferns at the time it was established, and heading to the rose gardens, I couldn’t resist this ice cream bicycle. Not selling anything today sadly.
We completed the route with a return to the tea van for a sandwich and cuppa.
The other thing I remembered from out last visit was seeing the wild poppies at the edge of the adjacent wheat fields. I think I blipped them on that occasion but there didn’t seem to be any in the same spot today. Leaving we spotted some along side the drive so just had to stop and photograph them as we have so few in our area where arable fields are rare.
We came home via Naylors Yorkshire pot makers. (Thank you Val C) Chris has been struggling to find the bowl shaped pots he wanted in the local garden centres.
We found some lovely blue/green glazed ones and the seconds price was so reasonable we bought five! (Extra)
A grand and successful day out!
