Rising Damp.....

Whenever I see this wonderful reconstruction of a crannog on Loch Tay, I wonder about the bloke who built the very first one.

Was he so chuffed with his creation, that he invited his pals round to gawp at what must have been the very latest thing in waterfront apartments?

Did they stand about smiling and drinking his nettle infusions, then go off and bitch about how the fire was in the wrong place, and quite frankly, their brother in law Ug could have built one twice as big for a lot less sheep?

Did Mrs Crannogdweller worry about the location of her new home, having heard that the lochside developments on the other side of the mountain were built on much fancier stilts than hers.....and came with a three year guarantee on the reed flooring?

We'll never know, but one thing's for sure - I bet the estate agents exaggerated wildly, even in those days!
