Bold pink dahlia
My Dad was a fantastically enthusiastic gardener and I learnt a lot from him
when I was a child growing up in Shirley Croydon.
He was a perfectionist when it came to creating a straight edge to the lawn. He let me help him collect the hedge clippings in a wheelbarrow and take them to the compost area of the garden. He loved growing dahlias and was successful at it. The sin of pride could well have been committed God bless him, regarding a beautiful big orange dahlia he grew each year in the front garden. He was good at cultivating not just flowers but a variety of fruit. Strawberries, blackberries and gooseberries, apples, pears and plums. He showed me how to sow seeds and look after them.We loved Cosmos and Calendulas.
He would have been 100 years old on 12th April, Easter Sunday this year when we were in lockdown. I felt inconsolable not being able to go home and put flowers on his grave.
So this beautiful dahlia is a Summer tribute to my dear Dad.
The weather is very close here in Rishton. As you know, we live on the out skirts of Blackburn and a second lockdown is now in place so we can not visit our son and his family. We are in Hyndburn constituency and are also in a second lockdown.
It feels so punishing when we have played by the rules from start to finish.
Hopefully it will have a good result and the virus will be overcome.
I question the decision to keep pubs open. Not the best idea.
Take care dear blip friends.
