A Grand Day Out
Amazingly, as forecast on Monday, Friday dawned sunny and warm with a NE breeze. Perfect for the great trip; R&E arrived just before 11am and off we set, dinghy in tow, to the mysterious island of Cramond. This ancient place, settled by the Romans, but now seldom visited* has a couple of sandy sheltered coves on its western shoreline, and can be visited by the experienced yachtsman who must navigate the sandbanks of the treacherous River Almond to find the fabled anchoring pool off Duckhouse Bay.
Yes, yes, yes, paddle ashore we did, with our portable barbecue and turntable, as hipsters would do. What a terrific few hours till the tide dropped and it was time for anchors aweigh. Back via Inchmickery and then on a close reach right to the harbour mouth, where the wind magically dropped to nothing.
But a quick turn around and out again - for we were off to the Bloc Gallery on Ferry Road for the opening of Mr WC’s latest, and most excellent, photographic exhibition. Masks on, but I was able to drop the guard slightly from time to time to sip a beer handed to me by the artist himself. And afterwards a sit out in the garden with Cigs and ciglettes. An unforgettable day all round.
