island life

A grand day out with my friend Joanna.

First we went to Loch Arthur for some shopping and then had tea and cake outside (eating out to help out..).

Second stop was Barnbarroch Pottery, home to another lovely friend Christine, where I bought a mug with some of my birthday money.

Third on the list was Kippford, from where we walked across the causeway to Rough Island. We had originally thought to walk to Hestan Island, a two mile walk across the mud of the Solway, but this walk seemed less scary...300m across a causeway. I had meticulously researched the tides so there was no chance of us being marooned there overnight. The photo shows Joanna looking back from the island towards Kippford. Rough Island is a bird reserve, so there is no access during the breeding season, up until 31st July.

We walked back across the mud to Rockcliffe and then through the oakwoods to Kippford; a very satisfying circular walk.

Last stop was for a drink outside the Anchor, overlooking the estuary.

I hadn't seen Joanna since February and we had so much to catch up on. It was a really wonderful outing :-)
