Pumpkin Bus

We saw this VW on the street today, and had to have a picture. We had one like this until the spring of 1988. This was The Pumpkin Bus, a vehicle both revered and reviled. That’s ok. It met its poor demise on spring break that year. On our way to central Oregon, we spun out on snowy roads on the Santiam Pass in the Cascades. We hit a snow berm, flipped, and slow motion slid upside down a 30 foot embankment. We all survived, with the only injury a lost toe nail to our black lab Maggie, riding in the back with Jake, our other black lab. The demise of the Pumpkin Bus, fortunately not for us.
