Esher Common
It was another hot day today, although quite breezy which helped to keep it cool. Esher Common was looking lovely with the heather in bloom, it won't be long till that is all over too especially as we have not had rain for a while now.
It has been a funny old summer due to the lockdown. As Kendall said in her journal yesterday, the clock stopped at spring. It does feel like that, and although we have had some very hot summer days it almost feels as if summer has slipped by and we are heading straight into autumn again.
At the start of lockdown the one bit of good news was the positive impact it was having on the environment, with tales of dolphins swimming in the Venetian canals and a decrease in carbon emissions. I think that has gone backwards again, with people buying food as take away from restaurants instead of being able to eat there, there was an excessive use of plastic containers, coffee shops no longer encouraged or allowed you to bring in your own mug so it was back to disposable coffee cups again, and with more people using open spaces and parks there was a horrible increase in litter. In London people wish to avoid public transport so more people than usual are driving to work and the traffic is really bad again. The one thing that really annoys me now is the number of discarded face masks I have see in the woods and other open places.
Even hotter tomorrow, and Friday is forecast to be 34C!
