WITH A SONG IN MY HEART

The Druid's Altar

Some fellow blippers will know where we are moored and also where we've been today - you know who you are!

We went for a walk to explore some of the area around Bingley. When we got to the bottom of the road I saw a sign which sounded instantly familiar - St Ives Estate.
Then we saw a sign to The Druid's Altar.
The walk was all uphill but it was lovely with wooded areas to dib in and out of through gaps in the wall. Bella May loved this as she could go on mini squirrel hunts. Not that she actually saw any and she would never catch one anyway!
We eventually found the Druid's Altar - a massive flat topped rocky outcrop with beautiful views over the Aire Valley.
I stood for a while and allowed my imagination to take flight with visions of those ancient people in long robes, their ceremonies and sacrifices.
I haven't found much information about it and there was no information board, however here is some info about the area and Druid's Altar is mentioned. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harden_Moor

On the way back we went in a churchyard where all the old gravestones had been used as paving and walls. What a lovely way to preserve the history of those long since departed local people.
I love walks that include some history about a place.

When we arrived back at the boat there was a purple widebeam boat across from us with lots of flowers on top and 2 lovely cats sunning themselves on the roof. One jumped down and disappeared into someone's garden -  the other stayed put and Bella and the cat spent ages just staring at each other across the canal.

Frank found a few brambles and mixed them with chopped apple and I added some strawberries then under my instruction he made some pastry. We only had self raising flour but it turned delicious with ice cream.

It's been mostly warm, dry and breezy but after tea we had a torrential downpour and now it's dry again.
It's meant to be hot and dry tomorrow which will make our journey back to Skipton a lot more pleasant than on the way here.

We'll be watching part 3 of The Decieved tonight - it's very good but I've no idea where it's going - which is the whole point of a thriller!

More tomorrow :-) X
