Pizza anybody?
Another dreich day today when I hardly crossed the threshold.
I picked some sweet peas in the rain as they are rampant at the moment, the scent is wonderful.
My runner beans are almost ready to start picking, just a few decent sized ones just now, but lots on the way, the French beans similarly are on the way. My courgette plants are going quiet at the moment, one plant has had mainly male flowers which is a pain, hopefully the females are just being shy and will appear soon. The potatoes are, as Eilidh says, taller than she is and beginning to flower so they'll hopefully start to die back soon. Last year's crop were still in the sacks when lockdown started as I never got around to emptying them, didn't do them any harm, so I'm not rushing. The peas have gone past their best sadly, I'm hoping for a second flush there too. I've got lots of raspberries and blackcurrants which I really should have picked by now. I have lots of lettuce, I grew them in crates, close together, so we've just been pulling leaves as needed, beautiful flavour and lovely to have them so fresh. The basil features on tonight's pizza, wonderful scent and flavour. It's on a pizza plate which we received as a wedding present in 1975. I haven't used the recipe on the plate, which is a yeast based one, for a long time. It was delicious and the bread base turned out beautifully light.
Popped down to Katy's tonight to return Pocahontas who had decided to make a bid for freedom. Nice to see the girls albeit briefly, Eilidh is looking forward to going back to school. Isobel has had her nursery class watching her mum singing 'Lean on Me' as part of the Sick Kids virtual choir. She'd apparently asked her teacher to Google it for her... she's only 3! They really have grown up over this lockdown period.
Keep well and safe everybody, Aberdeen has shown us that we mustn't be complacent.
Steps today are too embarrassing to record!
