Mirror Lakes

We spent a full day toady to get to somewhere that is 45 minutes as the crow flies from our hotel!

Fjordland National park is in the South west of South Island New Zealand. We travelled south initially alongside Lake Wakapitu and then crosses farming country to the west.
Lots of sheep stations and even deer farming but the mainstay of NZ farming these days is dairy.

Arriving at Te Anau on the lake of the same name we entered the National Park and began to ascend northwards.

The country was spectacular and here, to the east of the great divide, we were in the Eglinton range. A stop for a short, boarded walk revealed these Mirror lakes reflecting the Eglinton mountains.

Continuing we climbed and crossed the divide to the west and followed the Holyford valley with some of the highest mountains of the region.

We passed through a summit tunnel and arrived in rainforest then descended to sea level and boarded the Milford Mariner a put 4.30 pm for our overnight cruise and stay.

The Fjord was quiet, just 2 sister vessels as most people are day trippers and had gone home. It was a great experience and one I would recommend to anybody coming here.
