Heather Moorland

We set out to walk to Haworth today, with some trepidation because we expected it to be very busy and the cobbled main street is not the easiest place for social distancing.  Our destination was a small gallery of a local artist.  It is our 40th wedding anniversary this month and our list of fun things to do has been thwarted by the virus, so we thought we might fill the space above the fireplace with a local print.  Appropriately, the works we like are of heather moorland and we crossed plenty of it on our way there and back.

The cobbles were indeed very busy and folks were wandering back and forth across the street with little regard to the signs which instructed us to go up the left and come down the right!  Thankfully the gallery was empty but the person in attendance could not answer our questions so I shall have to e-mail the artist.  Back out in to the throng, we dodged around folks in our masks till we could escape down the hill in search of a cafe.  Not easy and our cafe of choice had a small queue but it wasn't moving, so we found another one where they were very happy to make us bacon butties even though they were about to close.  We took our butties and cups of tea in to the park and found a bench above the bowling green which gave us a lovely, quiet view.

We chose a different way home along a path to Hainworth we haven't walked before, what a pretty little hamlet it is.  We walked across the moor and were glad to arrive home to a cup of tea and, in my case, a raspberry magnum!  My Garmin said ten miles, no wonder my knees are protesting!
