Another dragonfly
Some kind of darter I think but not sure what exactly. This one was in my vegetable patch and obligingly rested perched on a twig, long enough for me to go and fetch my camera. The colours are a bit dull as unusually, it was completely cloudy most of the day.
Today was a strange day. There had been some torrential rain in the night though not for very long at all, but we woke up to find ourselves without telephone, internet, or mobile signal, and a bit later the electricity went off too. It wasn't until much later that we found out that the electric storm I"d been watching last night was a disastrous one for parts of central Evia, with huge amounts of rainfall in the mountains causing severe flash floods in several villages, with many homes inundated, cars washed away, people stranded etc and tragically 8 people killed.
A bridge carrying the main road over a normally dry river bed was washed away along with the power and telephone/internet cables for the whole of Southern Evia.
Added to that at midday, there was a fire in our village, caused apparently by sparks from an electricity pylon from some kind of power surge as the power supply was being reinstated. Fortunately it was put out before it got totally out of control, obviously just in time as the big black burnt area of field clearly goes right up to several houses.
In the light of all this, we felt quite lucky to get away with nothing worse than a power cut and 24 hours without phone or internet.
