Searching for Shona.
Well who’d have thought we’d have another lovely day.
It didn’t quite start that way with a heavy shower during breakfast and then a mizzly damp Scottishness when we wandered around for about an hour watching the ferry come in and out of the harbour. There was an interesting light over the Loch and the mountains were clear but we weren’t sure which way it was going to go.
One thing I love about the Ceilidh Place, where we normally just drop in for a drink or coffee, is that it has it’s own little book shop. This was my first call this morning. I wanted to buy a Katie Morag book for Eda. I have got one on every visit since she was born.
So we waited for our visitors in the lovely hotel lounge with an open balcony over the garden terrace and we could see it was getting drier and brighter all the time. By the time Grace, John and Eda had arrived we were able to take one of the outdoor tables for our coffee and even had to put the umbrella up as, as Eda said, it was ‘a bit bright’.
I read her the Katie Morag book and Six Dinner Sid in the Highlands which I had brought with me and one called ‘An Island Tail’ which I saw and bought on a whim this morning.
She was completely absorbed in them despite all the chat going on. She took Katie Morag to daddy for another reading and then the little story, set on the Isle of Lewis, of Shona the cat who goes missing was taken to Boppa for another read. She really seemed to take to it.
They stayed until mid afternoon having eaten at the much praised Seafood Shack - open air but fab - and then headed back to make the most of the hot afternoon by returning to the beach to swim.
We had a drink and then did our traditional fish and chip tea overlooking the harbour. Now back in the lounge where we can see out but avoid the midges which are prone to coming out a dusk.
No need for an extra of Eda on her hols today because we’ve seen her and will do again tomorrow, maybe on the beach!
Let’s hope we see the sun again too!
