Derwent Valley

We decided to have a wander around Cromford this morning because I wanted to rummage through what was on offer at the outdoor antiques/junk shop in the old mill (pic is last extra). Unfortunately the notice on the door read now closed on Tuesdays ! Never mind its always a good area to walk and grab a coffee. The mill lies on the R. Derwent and their is a nice river walk amongst the shadow of the trees.
The main blip is across the river to Willersley Castle which was originally built for Sir Richard Arkwright but it was finished shortly after he died in 1792. His son moved in instead and the Arkwright family lived there until 1922. In 1927 it was bought by some Methodist businessmen and during the war it served as a maternity hospital. Since then it operated as a Methodist Guild holiday centre and for many years as a Christian Guild Hotel. Alas the covid pandemic spelled the end of this era, it has been slowly deteriorating and now closed, it needs someone new to take it on.
The first extra is of Cromford Mill and the second extra made me think if walls could talk.
The rest of the day was spent trying to keep cool in the oppressive heat.
