Locks, Heat, Trains And A Pizza Boat

The feeling of not having to rush our journey helped our relaxation efforts today as we had a whole day to get to the Shady Oak from the Barbridge, which takes about 3 hours, or ten minutes by car. We moored up after the unique Iron Lock and was met by a fellow Pizza guy, on a boat. He is the only "Pizza Boat" up north, that he knows of (there are two down south apparently).
Despite the cloudy canopy, the weather was very warm again and the occasional sun bearing through enabled me to take this shot of the Beeston Castle & Tarporley railway signal box. I found out afterwards that this area was used for mass fuel storage during the Second World War: a huge man made hill covered the this storage bunker. Thankfully, it was not "known" to the Germans otherwise it would have been catastrophic. Strangely enough, a lock side cottage at the Beeston lock further down the canal was completely bombed away following a air raid on Liverpool.
We left it late with the rest of the journey, going though the last lock before mooring up for the night at the Shady Oak, with a good view of Beeston castle, high up. A pint and a few games of go fish meant we had a good laugh, though the surrounding pub goers must've thought we were mental.
All aces so far.
