Victoria Tower
A rather different blip today. Time was pressing and weather was a bit dire with very little light!
Victoria tower is an interesting landmark, extremely useful as a transit for local ships and boats but interesting in it's own right.
Lining up Victoria tower with other prominent landmarks such as the lighthouse or castle cornet, a ship or small boat can get a bearing of his position. Combine this with another transit, a depth or a bearing and you have a position which is 100% reliable. That is how Guernsey fishermen of old stayed safe in some of the most dangerous and fastest tides in the world, by using transits. Transits are actually much better and more reliable in close quarter pilotage than GPS because, it is instant!
