Bring Up The Bodies

With a shout out to Hilary Mantel for the title.

This is Constitution St Leith with the South Leith Parish Church graveyard on the left and the dug up section along the road is the path of the Tram Line Extension on its way to Newhaven. The excavations have exposed the extent of the original church’s graveyard. The folk in the hi-vis jackets you see in the photo are not civil engineers but archaeologists.
I got speaking to a nice lady archaeologist who was happy talk about what was happening and the age of the remains vary from 1000 to 1650-ish. The extra is not a photo of the nice lady archaeologist but of who she was working on, most of the data to be recovered will be done in the lab not in the field and when all the usable info recovered the skeletons (I think they are dealing with 10 or so) will be reburied within the confines of the graveyard.
Just realised that the work glove in the extra photo looks a bit incongruous, it only a glove and that’s it.
