Slider arrives too late

Despite training diligently for the Alternative Olympic Games, Slider the Snail was just not quick enough to the event or even to the closing ceremony. All the competitors have left the stadium, the Olympic village and are on their way home, except for Slider who is only just arriving. Poor old Slider, he was hoping for a medal position in the snail sprint. Not to be and I don't think he'll be around in 4 years time for the next AOG. Thanks to dbifulco and others for hosting the Games. I dare say they won't see this....

The weather showed many sides of it's character today. Benign and calm this morning, lulling us into a false sense of security. We knew what it was up to - this afternoon proved us right. A prolonged grumbling from the East signalled a more bellicose and belligerent spell of weather with lots of thunder and a fair drop of rain. We waited until the weather's indigestion had settled, then set out on our walk which ended in brilliant warm sunshine while we were picking damsons from trees on the golf course.

While the weather was at its most disagreeable this afternoon I made a couple of jars of damson jelly from those I collected Friday. I may have left it boiling too long as I think its going to need a pneumatic drill to pursued it out of the jars. Cooked and froze some raspberries and blackberries and now have to do it all over again.

Thank you for your supportive comments yesterday about having to step of paths to avoid phalanxes of people coming towards you. I thought we were the only ones having this experience. It's good to know we're not alone (but not good that we're having to do it)
