K is for Kendal
There's not a lot of street art in Kendal but this tunnel under the railway line has Lake District and Kendal bits and pieces. The K here is of course K shoes. Made in Kendal for 150 years from 1842 when Robert Miller Somervell founded K Shoes. Sadly sold in 1974 to Clarks to avoid a hostile takeover and the factory closed in 1978.
There is still a Clarks shoe distribution warehouse in Kendal, I suspect the only relic of its illustrious shoe making past. That and the K Shoes Male Voice Choir which is still going strong and you don't have to be a shoe maker to belong
