Watery Graves

After a morning of very heavy rain and mist it dried up in the afternoon and we met up for a walk on Half Moon Bay near Heysham. The dogs got very muddy but had a great time running around.

To dry them off we went up onto the headland where we came across the 8th century site on which the ruins of St Patrick’s Chapel are now located.

Close to the edge of the embankment there are these outlines of graves. Bones or reliquaries were most likely kept there rather than bodies and would have been covered by heavy stone slabs.

The heavy rains recently had filled them up a bit!
