Lightship
This lightship is now a restaurant and moored on the Gosport side of Portsmouth Harbour.
A lightvessel or lightship, is a ship that acts as a lighthouse used in waters that are too deep or otherwise unsuitable for lighthouse construction. There are quite a few British lightships in operation. For example Goodwin Sands and southwest of Dover.
The Haslar Marina Lightship -LV1- was the first to be built by Trinity House after the war- in 1947. It was on station in many locations off the east coast and in the English Channel. It was taken out of commision in 1993 and its conversion began.
