Bomber Command Memorial
Today I went to London to buy some walking boots for an imminent trip to The Lake District with fellow Blipper W. Before doing the browsing though, I went and had a look at the Bomber Command Memorial in Green Park/Piccadilly.
The Memorial is a fitting tribute to the 55,573 Bomber Command crew who lost their lives in the Second World War. This number included British, Commonwealth and Allied airmen. The memorial consists of seven figures 3 meters tall, and represents the aircrew of a Bomber Command heavy bomber. The design for the roof incorporates sections of the aluminium recovered from a Handley Page Halifax III bomber shot down over Belgium on 12 May 1944.
