Speckled wood.....at last!

I have seen a few of these flitting round the garden but it wasn't until today when they were in sufficient numbers and alighting on the heather that is just coming into bloom that I was successful in photographing one.

Today was a bit of an odd day. It was showery in the morning so I concentrated on indoor jobs. When it dried up in the early afternoon, I ventured out into the garden to tie up some of the roses that had been battered in the wind yesterday but once I had achieved my goal I was chased indoors again by the midges. So I plucked up all my courage to face the heap of ironing. Of course, once I started this task, a breeze came to blow away the midges and the sun came out!
