Barley took a bashing

Everywhere I have been today, walking Norwestie in the woods, down in the town, up here on the porridge hill, the air has been filled with the roar of a combine harvester. A sign of the end of summer.

Most of the planting round here is barley, with some oats, wheat and oil seed rape. The barley is pretty ready now. Some fields, the last to be sown, are still a little green tinged. Most are Scandinavian blonde now.

But last week's thunderstorms hit certain fields quite badly. The crop in the blip took a right bashing. It will be interesting to see what the combine harvester makes of it.
