In a Japanese garden

We are taking advantage of days with good weather to go out and about before the long winter sets in.

So, today we visited the Japanese Garden in Cowden castle near Dollar. This is a favourite and very popular tourist attraction and advance booking is essential. They have timed slots allowing 70 people at a time.  The result is a carefully choreographed visit making the whole experience very pleasant. You no longer have to fight your way to get good viewpoints.

M was able to stroll across the main bridge without another person in sight. (Yes, it happens to be Monday and late afternoon).

Ella Christie, whose family owned Cowden castle, created it over 100 years ago. She was an inveterate traveller; fascinated by Japanese culture so much so that on her return to Scotland she commissioned a Japanese garden on the family estate then brought over a woman Japanese garden designer- unheard of at that time.

Unfortunately the garden became vandalised during the 1960s and it is only six years ago that the decision was made to restore it.
Since then it has become one of the  jewels in the crown of Scottish tourist attractions.
