There's an Old Mill by a stream.
Once again doing our bit To Eat out and Help out, we decided to visit Shiben Mill Inn, near Halifax, and only 20 mins drive from home.
Nestling deep in the heart of the Shibden Valley, alongside the Red Beck, this was a corn and spinning mill back in the 17th century.
The area was known as Shibden Milne, and comprised the mill and several cottages.
The original mill was burnt down in 1859 and became abandoned until in 1890 it was purchased by Halifax brewers Samuel Webster and Sons Ltd and turned into an Inn. The cottages are now used as accommodation for the hotel.
The Inn is in a wonderful setting, even on a dull wet day like today, although it did stay fine for our visit.
Inside it has kept many of the original features, with lots of small room, big fires ( in winter)comfy sofas, and beamed ceilings.
A lovely place with great atmosphere.
However the food was not nearly as good as what we had at Grand Cru last week, and almost twice the price. No fixed menu, all a la carte.
We only had two courses not three as last week.
Such a shame, but really does make us appreciate what is now on our doorstep.
We will return to Grand Cru, but I'm afraid not the Shibden Mill Inn.
Although maybe just for a drink, sat outside on a sunny day when we are out on a walk.
We did appreciate the £20 off the bill! Still expensive!
