It’s the Same Old Song

....but with different singers!
Second read through of the pantomime last night (see blip of 20/8 for details of first meeting) but with an almost entirely new “cast”. There were a few of us returnees and I’d gone down mainly to read a couple of parts I’d not tried last week.
It seems that if we are able to go ahead - which is by no means certain at the moment - we could be the only show in town, hence all the new faces interested in trying for a part.
Just as enjoyable reading through the script again - even spotted some jokes that had passed me by last week! It was also interesting to hear different people’s interpretation of the characters compared to what I’d heard previously.
I don’t envy the director in the casting process. Probably a minimum of three people vying for each role, so some difficult choices to be made. Personally, I’d be happy with anything just as long as we can perform in front of an audience at some point!
But it’s still all very uncertain at the moment. There needs to be some fairly significant easing of lockdown before we could contemplate playing to even a limited audience. In the meantime though, socially distanced rehearsals are certainly allowed, so at least we can have a show ready to go if we get the green light.
