Priority Postbox
I thought I'd take a record shot of one of our two Priority Postboxes where you can post back your home Covid test kit. I had three cards to post which is the only time I went out today. I finally managed to get the last shrub root ball out today and another big rock, just got that bed to dig over now. This evening was the first of our photo club's project meeting (on Zoom), our theme for this year is water, so expect to see some water blips!!!

UK deaths up 16 to 41,465 (revised basis), with new daily cases up by 1,048 and ??? patients in hospital (the Govt website is having difficulty loading data again - just get it sorted!!!). Total cases passed 24m last night, steady at 1m in 4 days. Deaths in India pass 60k. Another vaccine called DIOS-CoVax2 could enter clinical trials in Autumn, this one is delivered through a jet of air through the skin (better for rapid mass vaccination). It aims to train the immune system to produce a good anti-viral response (not a hyper-inflammatory response) and could protect against other coronaviruses than cross over to humans from animals in future. Britain's Defence laboratory says a product called Citriodiol which is found in some insect repellents can kill the strain of coronavirus that causes Covid per Sky News, it is used by British armed forces as additional protection.
The Govt is following the WHO guidelines and making face coverings mandatory in communal areas and corridors for pupils in schools in areas in England subject to stricter coronavirus restrictions, with headteachers able to exercise discretion in other areas. The most senior official at the Dept of Education has been sacked. The loss from international visitor spending this year is estimated to be £22bn. Gatwick Airport is to lose up to 600 jobs and 520 jobs are to be cut at 3 Mini plants. The OECD has said that the UK is the hardest hit among major economies between April and June.
