Looking up

The prize for our tallest sunflower goes to this one, which is approaching 8 foot tall. It looks pleased to see the sun.

I am always up first in the morning and have developed a bit of a routine, including a wander into the garden to see how things are getting on. It’s often been the best part of the day in terms of the weather, and that was certainly true today. A clear blue sky. Cool for August, it is feeling autumnal. It is of course raining now.

It would be interesting to know how those identified by the NHS as “clinically vulnerable”, who were asked to shield like J, are dealing with the situation now. I suspect most, like us, will remain extremely cautious and continue as before. We avoid places where 2m social distancing looks in any way problematical . Shops, eating and drinking places, and anything else which involves being in a building is out. Seeing what everyone else is doing it does feel at times as if we are moving in a different universe.

We are certainly not trusting what government ministers are saying. But looking forward to the autumn through winter I think we do need to reset our approach a bit, whilst doing everything we need to do to remain safe. It’s a conundrum which we’ll begin to address next month. Whatever we do, J has to feel comfortable with it.
