Hodbarrow Lighthouse
We explored some old iron ore mining works at Millom after phone orientering on the sand dunes. Apparently the mine is one of the largest and best known of the West Cumbrian iron mines. It worked between 1848 and 1968 and produced about 25 million tons of hematite ore. The picture does not show the splendid position of this lighthouse. Do click on the "view map" icon to see where we were. (PS A few comments below refer to the leaning lighthouse. It was not leaning and I've straightened it in Lightroom)
Day 161 of Covid19 restrictions and Day 37 of face coverings in England.
We were hoping that R's cousin Kate and her boyfriend could come and stay for the weekend. She's booked us weeks ago but lives in West Yorkshire and has been under local lockdown for all of August. They were fully expecting lockdown to be relaxed yesterday, we were all set for her to arrive but - disappointment- her lockdown is relaxed from - Wednesday. It was so tempting to ignore the rules and tell her to come anyway but we didn't. I'm usually the one saying that rules are made to be broken but not in this case.
She's a teacher, schools go back next week. She'll be busy now until half term. A new chapter in the story of the virus is about to start with schools going back. We watch with interest
