Air Display

Saturday of the August Bank Holiday weekend and it was feeling distinctly autumnal on our morning walk.  It is hard to believe that two and half weeks ago we were experiencing a heat wave.  The wind has switched to come from the north so the air is cool (14 degrees) but warm enough to enjoy the breeze.   The vegetation is yellow and brown, a situation no doubt hastened by the dry hot weather.

It was a day of chores, mainly.  This included the pleasant task of ordering my autumn sown onion sets for planting at the allotment.  In the afternoon the sun came out and Merlin and I had a walk in the field.  We were surrounded by swallows and house martins swooping all around.  Some birds were going so low as to nearly touch the grass before they turned sharply upwards to the sky, others played together twirling through the air.  We were both transfixed and stood for a while under a large oak tree, watching the aerobic spectacle going on around us.  The wonderfulness of late summer.  It made my day.
