Pity

So many people with disabilities live on the streets outside the country's main mosque. Stranded on the verges of society they look for pity in the hope of getting enough to get by.

With polio and meningitis still raging here, thousands of children are being born every year with some form of disability, many of which never even see the streets outside because they are hidden away out of shame.

Such a pity it has to be this way. Thankfully there are alternatives - young, energetic advocates clammering for rights that tare beginning to send ripples into government circles.
