Saturday: Bear Glacier

We had a great breakfast before we left Stewart.  The cafe made their own bread and had the best playlist so what could be better?

We drove from Stewart to Smithers today.  The route back from Stewart to the junction was beautiful, the road from there to Smithers was a bit more ordinary.

Smithers is nice, though.  And it struck us that it was the first time we had seen a traffic light in a week.  The town has a curious alpine feel to it, to the extent that some of the buildings are distinctly Austrian or Swiss in design.

And, the height of excitement, there are also two microbreweries, Bulkley Valley and Smithers Brewing Company.  Needless to say, we sampled both before having dinner at the ‘Alpenhorn’ (see what I mean?!).

This is the Bear Glacier, quite close to Stewart.  Sadly,  but unsurprisingly, it’s shrinking at a significant rate.
