Packing the barrels
I have spent the morning scanning some of Mrs T's old family photographs including more from the fish yards of the 1930s. This one is of women packing wooden barrels with gutted herring. It must have been a very harsh life indeed, especially when the wind was howling in from the North Sea. They look as though they are leaning on the barrels but that was because of the relatively long exposure required. In reality there would have been a frenzy of activity. The good old days as they say!
