Historic…

…………………Mangaweka Bridge, NZ

Built in 1904, the Mangaweka Bridge over the Rangitīkei River divides the Rangitīkei and Manawatū districts. This historic bridge is the only cantilever road bridge left in New Zealand.

No wind today, instead we woke to a very wet day. Blue sky and sunshine put in an appearance late in the day - after our return to Himatangi.

Today’s plan was to travel the scenic route from Feilding to Mangaweka via Cheltenham, Kimbolton and Apiti.

Stopping to buy local honey at DownUnder Honey, we discovered a group of very wet Ostriches were also part of the family farm.
Further along the road were rows of sunshine in the form of daffodils in full bloom. They were quite unexpected amongst the predominately dairy and sheep farms.

Kimbolton has a welcoming café with delicious homemade food and a warming fire. We were very pleased to partake of their special hot drink of the day and tasty sausage rolls.

Winding our way through mist and views we stopped to investigate the remains of an old power station and dam at Mangaweka and to photograph the South Rangitiki viaduct.

Thank you for the comments, stars and hearts for yesterday’s Toe Toe. This is a native plant to NZ. Another very similar plant from South America, commonly called pampas grass was introduced to this country is an invasive grass which threatens various native plants
