Point de Vue

Washington DC's newest...

... memorial and the fifth to a US president (Eisenhower) just inaugurated this past week. We went to check it out during the daytime and at night (many of DC's monuments are superb at night -- if you ever find yourself here).

I quite like it: once the landscaping takes root, it'll be more a park than a monument and a place in which I think I'd enjoy just chilling. Eisenhower's key moments depicted throughout the memorial do him justice as a man who remained humble throughout.  A smaller statue at one end of the memorial depicts him as a child and describes his dreams (see extra).

One of the monument's distinguishing feature (though not my favorite) is a stainless steel tapestry that spans 447ft behind the memorial and depicts the coast of Normandy (you really have to know that's what those squiggles are...).  Also different is that the memorial stands in front of the Dept of Education (an agency Eisenhower helped create) and on the "museums section" of the Mall.

(as usual, pls see in large for actual resolution of the b&w)
