Wellies

Taihape is, apparently the gumboot (wellies) capital of the world. They have a gumboot event in March. I'm not sure what that entails but there must be a Wellie throwing competition as I've seen in at agricultural shows in England. The village itself is on the central plateau of North Island at a height of almost 800 metres. It is real sheep country. They graze on the rolling hills that have been eroded from the ash deposited from the mighty eruption that formed Lake Taupo.
