RIP, another dead tree
I filled up with fuel this morning, only the second time since late March, then headed up to the garden centre for a couple of Sympathy cards, as two people I know have died of cancer in the past week.
The little craft shop in Oakley had just the thread I needed, so the sewing job is underway, slowly.
Home by 11 a.m. and conkers raining down all along the avenue, but fortunately none hit the car. JJ came home at 1 p.m. to say one of the Horse Chestnuts on the avenue had come down and landed partially across the road, but the trunk was in the verge.
I headed down with my camera and as you'll see from the extra, the trunk is completely rotten. Friends were just heading down the road when it came down in front of them, so it's lucky no-one was hurt.
We were advised about the state of the trees a couple of years ago and a decision will have to be taken whether they all need to be felled before there is a serious accident. As it's called Chestnut Avenue, the residents will want to replant with the same species but a variety that is not susceptible to disease, and we do have money in the kitty to pay for them.
