Ullo John - Got a New Motor

New car day today, but as the only outward difference from my old car is that it’s a different colour, I didn’t see much point in posting a picture. If you really want to know, find my blips for 31st July and 18th September to see what it looks like and what colour the new one is.
One thing I always look for when buying a car is one that has previously been a dealer demo or management car. These are usually well specced, low mileage and properly maintained so represent good value for money once they reach three or more years old. This one has pretty much all the toys in the BMW catalogue, though very few I didn’t have on the last car.
One cool trick was that I was able to load all my personal settings for the old car on to a USB stick and then import them in to the new one. Saved a lot of time messing with set up menus.
Now compare that experience with what my late father-in-law went through when he bought a brand new car in 1955. As you can see, a licence holder and a parcel shelf were deemed optional extras in those days. And splashing out a whole £4 15/- on flush fitting trafficators seems like a lot of extravagance! And never mind importing personal settings and syncing your phone to the car - I suspect he didn’t even get a radio back then!
Mind you, if he’d hung onto it and kept it in good condition, allowing for inflation, it would be worth today almost the same as it cost in 1955. I have a sneaking suspicion that will never apply to my new car, no matter how long I keep it for!!
