Fallow deer
Last week we joined the National Trust. Maybe it was not the best idea in the world given the fact that a lot of the buildings are closed, but with us taking advantage of staycations in the UK it seemed sensible at the time. Today we went to Dunham Massey for a walk around the winter gardens (a tad disappointing, but still interesting) and the deer park.
They have a herd of fallow deer that wander freely around the grounds which are walled. It was a chilly start but it warmed up nicely by lunchtime and as there was no wind it was very pleasant indeed.
Many of the deer seemed to be hiding, but we did see a few individuals which was lovely. It’s a very long time since I’ve been so close to deer. As well as the deer, my other target species was a green woodpecker that I know are seen in the park. We certainly heard one and saw a fleeting flight in between the trees, but the close encounter I was after eluded me today. We will need to go back again at some time :)
Back home in the afternoon we took the time to apply some sealant to our greenhouse as it has been leaking quite badly since we replaced some of the panes. Hopefully we have done a reasonable job - not too long to wait as rain is coming again soon......
