ROOTS AT FIREMAN'S PARK
ROOTS (Restoration Of Our Trees Sheboygan) is a project affiliated with the Rotary Club, International Chapter in Sheboygan Wisconsin USA.
Much of the Great Lakes states area is affected by an infestation of the Emerald Ash Borer (Agrilus planipennis) or EAB, an Asian beetle which lays its eggs in ash trees. As the eggs hatch, the larvae feed internally and disrupt the flow of nutrients within the tree eventually killing it. In some cities and throughout the countryside as much as one-third of the trees in the area are dead or soon will be.
One of the goals of the ROOTS program is to replace those trees lost to the EAB. Here you see work to replace some trees at Fireman's Park in Elkhart Lake, WI. It starts with making a hole and then transplanting trees, here a White Oak, obtained from local nurseries with funding provided by corporate sponsors.
