Steamship Linnet of 1866

at Cairnbaan on the Crinan Canal on an old postcard. She carried passengers between Ardrishaig and Crinan from 1866 to 1929. They would have disembarked from a Macbrayne steamer ( Columba or Iona) from Greenock at the former pier and would be embarking onto another steamer (Chevalier)at the latter heading onwards to Oban, Fort William and beyond. The Linnet took two hours to cover the nine mile trip and passengers could have a walk or refreshments at Cairnbaan about halfway.
The extra is a lovely recent scene on the Canal, this postcard thanks to blipper Seasidesusie whose great photos are enjoyed by many of us.
