What's In a Name ?
Today we enjoyed warm sunshine and blue skies again. It felt almost miraculous after yesterday's non-stop downpour.
This morning I planted pots of spring bulbs for the house - some may even flower by Christmas, if I remember to keep them cool and water sparingly.
The garden was still far too wet to work in, so we took ourselves to Abbotsford for a walk after lunch. It was looking very much the romantic pile today (extra).
We went downhill to the riverside path. That was a mistake. It was partially flooded, and generally squelchy. I remembered that when Sir Walter Scott bought the land here, it was a farm called 'Clarty Hole'. Clarty means dirty, or muddy in Scots, and it was definitely that today.
But we plodged our way through and found that the cafe was open. So we sat out on the terrace and enjoyed the view of the trees, now beginning to turn colour rapidly. We also enjoyed an americano and a scone each - supporting another local enterprise that we would really miss if it went out of business.
Another weird week gone by ... whatever next ???
