'Virtual' London Marathon!
I'm sure that most of you know that April's London Marathon was deferred until today. Although only the 'elite' athletes took part in the actual race, confined to a loop around St James' Park, people all around the world were invited to complete the 26.2 miles in any way they could, whether in a local park, their own gardens or even on a treadmill at the gym, raising much-needed money for charity. A group from our village ran several lengths of the Worth Way, a former disused railway line that was repurposed many years ago into a route popular with walkers, cyclists and horseriders.
I'd given up on getting the hoped-for marathon-related photo and had decided to settle for blipping the wonderful dinner my husband and I had to celebrate our recent wedding anniversary when - and I couldn't believe it! - I saw these two lovely ladies in the restaurant!
They were not only happy for me to make them my blip for today but also asked me if I would take some pictures for them on their own phones. They were, quite rightly, very proud of themselves and I, not for the first time, found that starting a conversation with 'I know this is going to sound weird, but...' can work wonders!
