Decomposing

I am used to the sound of wasps scritching on wood and sticks to make pulp.

And on them eating fruit and nectar etc later in the year. I understand it is something to do with cravings for sweetness. I recall hearing that their reward for providing for the colony was a tiny droplet of nectar ( from the queen?) but as the year progresses this declines and the wasps have to search elsewhere for their reward.

I was not expecting to see this dead worm being used as a source.

Apart from that, a lovely day with the autumn colours in full flow. And even a rhododendron in flower - see extra.
