Bridge of Sighs

Great reflection of the Bridge of Sighs in Chester as I walked along the canal this morning. And it’s definitely been a day for sighing as I attempted to get mum sorted before the rules change tomorrow.
I really don’t understand how she and my sister actually manage to survive on a day to day basis. Today’s tales of woe include a leaking radiator and a central heating boiler that had lost pressure. Finally found the instructions and repressurised the system, only for this to result in the leak getting worse and a new leak appearing next to the boiler. Phoned the plumber who is mad busy, but will try and get round next week. Replaced two smoke alarms that were bleeping due to low batteries. Asked her how long they’d been bleeping and she said months! But it was alright because they didn’t disturb her at night as she removes her hearing aids when she goes to bed and can’t hear anything!! Found a faulty light switch in the bathroom. Apparently an electrician has been called, but in the meantime she will just take the bulb out if it won’t switch off!!! I was lost for words at that point and can only hope the sparky gets round sooner rather than later.
In spite of being ostensibly asked round to help go through some boxes, as yet unpacked from her move six months ago, it soon became apparent she had no intention of looking at anything and what she actually wanted was for me to tidy out under the stairs to create enough room to store the garden chairs and hoover that are cluttering up the garage. She has been obsessed with getting the car in the garage for a few weeks now, and as soon as I’d moved the last chair, I was almost run over by the car coming in behind me!
I suppose they did manage to survive for four months in the initial full lockdown, so I can only hope they can manage the next few weeks without flooding or burning down the house!
